RV Product Review - Flagpole Buddy Flag Pole System
This week we review the Flagpole Buddy Flag Pole System. This system makes flying a flag off the back of an RV a breeze!
Review – Flag Pole Buddy – 1″ Pole Kit –> [Click Here]
What it is: This Flag pole has a 1″ diameter, made of a strong anodized aluminum. It extends from 6 ft to 12 ft, locks into place with a 1/4″ turn in any direction. It utilizes a patented mounting system that makes putting your flag pole up a snap!
Positives: Installs in minutes, easy to use, strong, can fly up to 2 flags, lite weight, great accessories
Negatives: Pole only lowers to 6 feet which may make it difficult for some to store, and in windy conditions the pole may rattle in mount.
Summary: Our main concern with this product when we received it was the plastic mounting brackets, which we later found would not be an issue (detailed below). We also really like that the kit included stainless steel mounting
hardware. No ugly rusting screws to worry about!
Installation took all of about 10 minutes which includes mounting a lower holder bracket and the proprietary upper bracket to the ladder on the back of the RV. This upper bracket allows you to install and remove the flag pole by angling the pole in a slot and than standing the pole upright and lowering into the bottom holder bracket. The pole is lite weight and anyone can install or remove the pole in seconds once the brackets have been mounted.
The main kit includes a 3′ x 5′ American Flag, (2) flag clips, aluminum pole and a gold ball topper. In our evaluation they also sent us the optional solar globe which again we really where not sure it would it throw off enough light and for how long. Attaching the flag is made easy with spring loaded clips, be sure to buy an extra set of clips if you plan to fly a second flag. The flag included is really light weight and flies well even in light breezes and looked great as well!
When night rolled around we really loved the solar globe! We had campers all over the campground walking by to have a look as the globe change from red to blue to green and as it phased into these colors we realized we picked up purple, orange and turquoise! We where told by some die-hard observers that the globe faded out at about 2 a.m. long after we had turned in for the evening. You can easily see it from most anywhere in a decent size campground, but is not to bright to be obnoxious. It runs off 2 rechargeable batteries which are charged during the day, the globe turns on automatically at night.
The torture test came as a very quick moving storm caught us off guard and there was no time to lower the pole. Winds reached 75 plus mph destroying awnings and many other objects in the RV park and I thought for sure the pole would be broken or at least the flag clips would be broken. As soon as the storm subsided I dashed out and to my amazement it was flying perfectly.
I have not had an issue with the pole rattling, but have heard from some customers who have. An easy solution was adding a piece of Velcro in the upper mount and rattle was gone. I have been using this unit for about 4 years now and it is as good as new, I highly recommend this product if your in the market for a flagpole for your RV.
